Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I submit my website search engines?
Studies have shown that some 85% website traffic comes from search engine referrals. If your site is not listed in the search engines, you're missing out on the most important source of traffic.
2. How long does it take for the search engines to list my website?
Getting your site indexed varies from one search engine to another. Most search engines take a few days to several weeks to crawl your site. Some search engines and directories require you to confirm your submissions by email. Just click on the links they email you to confirm your submissions.
2. Why submit to only 300 search engines and directories?
The top 100 or so search engines and directories account for over 95% of all search engine traffic. While many companies offer to submit your site to hundreds of thousands "search engines," often for
outrageous fees, most of the places they submit to are link farms and spam sites disguising as "search engines" to harvest your e-mail address.
By submitting your site to 300 top search engines and directories, you get almost 100% coverage without exposing yourself to the risks of getting spammed and being penalized by search engines for having your link listed in bad neighborhoods.
3. How often should I have my site submitted?
In most cases your site needs to be submitted only once since it remains on the search engine servers indefinitely. However, some search engines may drop
your listing if your site is down for a period of time. Not all search engines and directories accept your site the first time it is submitted. We recommend ordering our 6-month or 1-year submission package to ensure that your site is listed in as many places as possible.
4. Will the search engines ban my site if I submit multiple times?
No, that is just a myth. If it were true, then your competitors could simply submit
your site ten times a day to get you banned. If your site is already listed on a search engine, subsequent submissions would simply cause the search engine to revisit your site
and check for updates.
5. Should I submit every page of my site to the search engines?
Generally, you need to submit only the main page of your site. The search engine robots will follow links from your home page and index all your sub-pages. We recommend that you submit your main page and a few most important sub-pages.
6. Should I be concerned about spam?
To minimize the risk of spam we submit to only legitimate search engines and directories. We don't submit to link farms and other site from "bad neighborhoods". If you're concerned about receiving unsolicited emails, we recommend that you use a secondary email address for submitting to search engines.
